Chemical storage and bunding
Range of accessories including bund stands, chemical pallets and storage containers for the safe storage of chemicals.
The Chemical Store should be well laid out with good access to all stored product.
Storage zones should be allocated for storage of specific products and signed accordingly.
Incompatible products must be kept apart in separate storage areas. A risk assessment approach should be used to determine whether different zones in the same building or different buildings are required.
The store should protect the products from extremes of temperature, sunlight and rain. Some products will be susceptible to freezing.
The store should be well ventilated.
The store should be secure and only allow access to authorised personnel.
The materials of construction of the store and any fittings (e.g. racking) should be compatible with the materials stored and also non-combustible to minimise the risk to personnel in the event of a fire. The design of the store and in particular the floor should be such that it retains any spillage. Ideally:
Separate spill areas / bunds for incompatible materials.
No access to effluent or surface water drains.
Safety Equipment
There must be adequate washing facilities for routine and emergency.
Spill kits should be kept to contain, absorb and hold any accidental spillages.
Storage
Store in original containers. Keep containers closed.
Store incompatible products apart.
4 x 5 kg boxes should not be stored more than 3 high.
25 kg containers should not be stored more than 3 high.
200 kg containers should not be stacked.
1000 kg containers should not be stacked.
Note: Chlorinated products are fitted with a vented cap or bung. This can seep liquid if the container is put on its side or upside down.
