Simon Bell

Managing Director

As managing director, Simon is accountable for the strategy and the overall direction and control of the company’s operations. Responsible for ensuring that the company achieves its objectives in a socially responsible, innovative and ethical way, Simon is also the key driving force in Holchem’s environmental policy.

About Simon Bell

As the son of the founders, Simon worked regularly in the factory at Ramsbottom during school holidays from the age of 14.

Following university, Simon gained sales and marketing experience in a number of the UK’s blue chip companies before joining the family business in 1996 as a Technical Sales Consultant. Working through the various positions within the business Simon gained an understanding of the growing company from the bottom up.

He joined the Board in 2002 as managing director of the business. His business ethics today echo the ethos of the family business his late father founded. Still working hands on in the organisation today, Simon puts great emphasis on family values and building a business that delivers solutions for its clients whilst always being a thoroughly enjoyable place to work.

John Holah

Technical Director

John is responsible for coordinating the development of innovative cleaning and disinfection chemicals and technologies to provide managed sanitation programmes and help control customers’ hazards and brand protection issues.

About John Holah

John drives the product development of the business forward working with a team of the UK’s leading research and development scientists and chemists constantly delivering products to meet the needs of Holchem’s client base.  

John is an applied microbiologist whose work has focussed on the prevention of microbial, chemical and foreign body contamination of food during its manufacture, distribution and retail. John has specific expertise in food hazard management, the hygienic design of food factories, and food processing equipment; factory services and water systems; maintenance; cleaning and disinfection; personnel hygiene and environmental sampling. Prior to joining Holchem, John was Head of Food Hygiene at Camden BRI for over 20 years and has edited three books on food safety and hygiene.

Nick Edwards

Sales Director

Nick’s primary role is to ensure the sales and profit objectives of the business are met whilst ensuring the service and support expectations of Holchem’s customer base is exceeded through Holchem’s Service Excellence Programme.

About Nick Edwards

After qualifying and starting life in the Paper Industry, Nick moved into Speciality Chemical sales in the early 80’s joining Holchem’s board as sales director in 2000.

Stuart Middleton

Finance Director

Working closely with the managing director and the rest of the board, Stuart crafts the finance strategy in line with the corporate strategy for the business.

Sam Hardman

Administrations Director

Sam is responsible for the people behind the business ensuring that the family ethos of Holchem cascades through every area of the company, advising and building employee development, benefits and incentive plans.

About Sam Hardman

Sam joined Holchem in 1990 to assist mum, Anne Bell, with all the growing administration needs of the rapidly growing business. Sam took over as Administration Director in 2002 with Anne retiring from the business in 2006.

Steve Bagshaw

Marketing Director

The marketing director is responsible for incorporating marketing systems and demonstrating best practice for all communications throughout the company. Being responsible for the communication of Holchem’s corporate strategy Steve ensures that the business, its products and services are promoted in an honest and ethical manner.

About Steve Bagshaw

Following a career spanning the special steel industry, brewing and speciality chemicals, Steve started with Holchem in 1988 as a technical consultant supporting a number of food and beverage customers. He joined the board as technical director in 1993.  After 20 years delivering innovative solutions for customers throughout the UK and Europe, Steve became marketing director in 2014. His insight into customer knowledge and understanding of every aspect of the Holchem business ensures that Steve knows what customers need and the solutions that need to be delivered.
