Mike McHardy, Holchem’s Division Manager, Food Service, Hospitality and Retail recently helped customer Daniel Thwaites judge a very special competition to highlight best practice for cleaning and hygiene in the group and find its ‘cleanest’ housekeeping and kitchen teams.
Mike went on the road with the Daniel Thwaites team inspecting the company’s 20 properties around the UK. The competition was designed to raise awareness of just how important hygiene and best practice is in the successful running of housekeeping and kitchen teams. A vigorous inspection was carried out across all the group’s sites and inns by Mike and the assessors, culminating in the winners being presented with their certificates at Holchem’s Gateway House.
The North Lakes Hotel & Spa and Golden Lion in Settle won the best Housekeeping team and Langdale Chase in Windermere and the Judge’s Lodging, York were winners in the kitchen category.
Mike commented: We work closely with Daniel Thwaites and it was a real honour to be asked to help judge the awards. It’s so important to establish best practice and all the teams certainly did that. We were able to celebrate the great work the teams do day in day out and the visit to Gateway House and the tour of the site was a great day for all.
Steve Lord who is Purchasing Manager at Daniel Thwaites, said: This was a great way of us raising awareness of best practice and rewarding a job well done. We teamed up with Holchem and we went on the road to look at every kitchen and housekeeping team in our hotels and inns. We looked at everything from standards of work to processes in place and having that external validation of best practice from Holchem gave us an added dimension. Our teams had no idea about the prize on offer, so it came as a big surprise when they found out.
