Version 7 of the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Food Safety Standard was published on the 7th January 2015 and is now freely available as a download from the BRC website.
David Childs, Technical Service Manager, has compared Version 7 with the current Version 6, which is in force until the 1st July 2015. The Technical Guide is there to help our customers prepare for the necessary changes that will impinge on their processes and procedures. In addition a seminar is being run at 4 locations around the UK and Ireland to again help you plan the revisions to your Food Safety Management System so you are fully prepared for an audit against Issue 7.
There is an overall focus on the need for HACCP prerequisites, such as cleaning and disinfection programmes, to effectively manage hazards, particularly in high-care/high-risk areas. Where the cleaning and disinfection programme manages a hazard, the cleaning and disinfection programme must be validated and the results from the validation used to set cleaning performance.
