Before their summer break, one of our experienced chemical scientists talked to chemistry pupils about turning their knowledge and qualifications into a future career.
Dr Jim Taylour, head of products, research & development at the company, visited Holy Cross College in Bury to talk to the budding chemists of the future through a typical day in his role, as well as the varied roles across Holchem and generally which require knowledge of chemistry.
We think it is really important that we pass on knowledge and experience to the chemists of tomorrow, encouraging future generations to build a fulfilling career in the field.
Pupils learnt about the positions chemists work across, including regulatory positions, technical sales and investigative roles, as well as the traditional laboratory setting.
Dr Taylour said of the visit: It was a fantastic opportunity for me to discuss with the chemists of the future the varied roles and responsibilities which are available in chemistry based careers. It is easy to stereotype the roles available in the chemistry profession, so it was really good to talk with the future generations about the career paths that don’t just include working within a laboratory.
Ian McGeough, Head of Chemistry at Holy Cross College said: It was fantastic that Dr Taylour took the time to give our pupils an insight into his working day, and what the future could hold for our chemistry students, with a really informative and interesting presentation.
