Team Talk - Sarah West

Blog | 21 May 2018

Our team is the core of our business and our most valuable asset.  Everyone puts in 110% effort every day and has such passion for their roles. In a new series of blogs, we are taking a closer look at the work our teams carry out and showcasing their amazing talents.

The first team member in the series is Sarah West, Technical Service Manager.

Sarah, how long have you worked at Holchem?  I have been with Holchem for over 18 years and started my career here as a Hygiene Technologist. This involved working with a customer to develop and write bespoke cleaning instruction cards for their operation. After a couple of years, I changed role to Technical Service Manager with my training including a mix of product training, audit training and observation while attending the various customer food sites.

What are your responsibilities?  My responsibilities are to provide an additional level of technical support to our customers in the form of best practice expertise and advice, investigations and audit; this often involves audits on customer sites during the cleaning shift (mainly night). In addition, as part of the technical team I am involved with specific projects to ensure Holchem keep at the forefront of developments of our customers systems and support.

What are your specialities?  My specialist technical work focuses on two principal areas: creating bespoke hygiene management systems for the foodservice, hospitality and retail sectors and as one of the team’s technical experts on Cleaning in Place (CIP).  I have also travelled extensively for my role and last year visited Ghana to carry out a new project for our client Blue Skies.  I visited the site to carry out an overview of its new ice cream production plant to ensure that it can be cleaned effectively when it goes into production.

Tell us about your interests outside of work?  I am a mum of a 12-year-old boy which keeps me very busy! My main interests are running and walking which I try and fit in when he is doing his many sporting activities. I run a Rainbow unit which is part of the Girl Guide Association and is for five to seven year old girls and I’m also a school governor for my local primary school. My absolute favourite way to while away a Sunday afternoon is with family and friends enjoying good food paired with good wine.

Commenting on her role, Sarah said:  I love all the various aspects of my job.  My favourite part is getting to meet people across all sectors of the food manufacture and foodservice helping them maintain good, clean, hygienic standards in their own place of work.  Every day is different.  Some days (or nights) I can be in factories carrying out audits, and others attending meetings at our customers or some days I can simply be in the office typing up audits or carrying out specialist project work.

And finally, Sarah what is your dream job?  A development chef in the food industry.
